If you’re booked for irrigation, we recommend using olive oil or sodium bicarbonate ear drops for 3–5 days before your appointment, unless you’ve been advised otherwise. For microsuction, drops are helpful but not always essential.
Most patients find microsuction and irrigation comfortable and painless. You may hear some noise from the equipment and feel gentle movement, but it shouldn’t hurt. If you feel any discomfort, we’ll adjust the procedure straight away.
Appointments usually last 20–30 minutes, depending on how much wax is present and whether one or both ears need treatment.
Yes. If more than one family member needs earwax removal, you can book back-to-back clinic appointments. Ask us about availability when booking.

If no significant earwax is found during your appointment, we will carry out a full ear health assessment and explain our findings.
In this case, a consultation fee of £45 will be charged to cover the clinician’s time and examination.
